From New York's Greenwich Village to the charts, from the gay subculture to the mainstream: Village People had a decisive influence on the disco sound of the late 70s. The band, founded by producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, consisted of characters from the gay scene: motorcyclists, Indians, cowboys, construction workers, policemen and soldiers. During their very successful career, they produced several worldwide hits - including "Y. M.C.A.", "In The Navy", "Macho Man" and "Go West". They were also in the charts in the 80s with songs such as "Can't Stop The Music" and "Sex Over The Phone".
